Early Childhood Education (ECE)

For this First Nation Early Childhood Education facility, our architectural strategy translates community needs into a secure, environmentally responsive, and culturally grounded space. By strategically shaping the building's footprint to act as a natural windbreak, we created a protected, sunlit outdoor haven explicitly designed for children's play.

To balance daily operations with community life, our zoning approach allows the public to easily access the gym and cultural rooms after hours while ensuring the dedicated childcare wings remain completely locked down and secure.

The facility's accessible three-storey layout features an elevator, alongside a teaching kitchen to serve both the program and the broader community. We mapped out intuitive traffic flows that safely separate parent drop-offs from hidden service deliveries.

Crucially, the design deeply respects local heritage by thoughtfully integrating the Seven Sacred Teachings—love, respect, courage, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth—into the structural pillars supporting the second floor, while continuing this cultural integration outdoors alongside a traditional teaching circle, teepee, and medicine-wheel garden.
