Bear Park

Designed as a welcoming landmark for a Treaty 6 Cree community, this Powwow Park reimagines a recreational site as a respectful cultural threshold. The entry is anchored by the Mountain Wall—precisely aligned to the Summer Solstice, so that at 4:13 AM on June 21, the rising sun tracks through the entrance and illuminates the Bear Art, symbolizing renewal, protection, and collective strength. Guided by solar analysis and deep community listening, the design creates a dignified transition from the everyday into the sacred circle of the Powwow grounds, honouring the land, the people, and the heartbeat of tradition.
